Just like we make a list of personal New Year’s resolutions, we should sit down with our partners and make a list of resolutions we want to focus on in 2021 as a couple. Couples should work on their relationship if they want a healthy and long-lasting relationship. There are certainly a number of things you can improve, work on, and even start in the new year. You should make personal goals, but you should also make some couple’s goals to have a beautiful loving year.
New Year’s Resolutions All Couples
Open communication
2021 should start with the willingness to communicate openly and honestly. Even if the conversation is deemed to be difficult, go through it anyway. Honest, open, and regular communication builds a relationship and nurtures it.
If you feel like you can work on the area of communication together, you can read a book by Marshall Rosenberg titled Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. You will improve the quality of your union once you improve your communication skills.

Quality time together
Even if you live with your significant other, it doesn’t mean you spend quality time together. You’re together every day, but do you pay attention to each other and truly listen?
Quality time means sharing the moment with your partner without any distractions. When you carve out time in your daily schedule to spend together, you deepen the connection and keep the spark alive.
…and quality time apart
Your partner shouldn’t be the only center of your attention, no matter how deep your love for each other is. You need to work on your own interests, hobbies, friendships, and goals in order to have an internal sense of validation.
Losing yourself in a relationship is normal during the honeymoon phase. However, you need to pay attention to your own needs if you want this relationship to be a healthy one. The same goes for your partner as well. Take some time apart once in a while so you’ll have something to tell each other once you’re together again.
Sticking to exercise together
Physical exercise is essential for better overall health. It improves your strength, stamina, blood flow, reduces tension, improves your mood, improves your body image, and self-esteem. It’s something you can do as a couple especially if one of you lacks the motivation to exercise regularly.

You can exercise together at home if you set up a mini home gym. Home gyms are ideal during the pandemic so invest in a long-lasting power rack, dumbbells, and resistance bands. You can also exercise on your own,so you won’t depend on each other’s schedule. Just make a plan of exercise for the week and promise each other you’ll stick to it.
Set a financial goal
2020 has been stressful in so many ways and finances are probably one of those stressful areas. But, having a financial goal in place for 2021 can help you broach this important subject. If you want to save up for a post-pandemic adventure, teamwork is essential.
If you put the same amount of effort to save up you’ll do it easier and achieve your goal faster. In order for it to be equally important to save up money for a certain financial goal, this goal has to resonate for both of you. Pick a financial goal that is important for you as a couple and work on a plan to achieve it.

Date nights
Every couple’s therapist or a psychologist out there will tell you that date nights are important. The planning, the anticipation, getting ready, picking the right place, and spending the night together will keep the fire burning.
Date nights even during the pandemic can be your little getaways from the daily grind and troubles. You can do them once a week or once every two weeks. But, to make them truly memorable, focus your entire attention on your partner and enjoy your time together. Seduce each other every time and try to act like it’s one of your first dates.
Plan a post-pandemic list of adventures
Do you have a bucket list? Have you hated almost every moment of 2020? You and your partner are just one of many people who deserves a break from stress and anxiety. All of us crave adventures and freedom to explore and enjoy life without the fear of this vicious virus.
So, if you’re stuck at home together, sit down and talk about the things you want to try out in 2021. This intimate brainstorming session can lift up your mood and make you hopeful about 2021.
