NEET Controversy Due to Income Criteria of EWS
The Supreme Court is now considering a slew of petitions challenging the government and a medical counselling committee notification issued in July that set aside 10% of NEET admissions for the EWS group.
A general category student or candidate whose family income is less than INR 8,00,000 per year is eligible for the EWS reservation, according to the law adopted by Parliament in January 2019. After this NEET Controversy, the Supreme Court decided to recheck the criteria.
NEET Exam Controversy Due to Tamil Nadu Government
In September 2021, NEET Controversy came into the news due to the Tamil Nadu government. According to the Tamil Nadu government, NEET Exam is a centralized exam that takes place on a single day. As a result, students, particularly those from rural areas, are under a great deal of stress. For center and state-level college admissions, medical students take only one entrance exam. Engineering candidates, on the other hand, take both national and state exams.
NEET Controversy Due to Paper Leak
There was a rumor about an alleged NEET 2021 exam paper leak even before the exam was held, but the NTA denied any security breach and dubbed it “false.” Despite students’ demands for an investigation, the exam was eventually held as scheduled.
Furthermore, roughly half an hour after the exam began, the exam paper was discovered circulating on social media. In connection with the crime, police also arrested NEET applicant Dineshwari Kumari, her uncle, invigilator Ram Singh, and four others.

NEET Controversy Due to Bombay HC
The Bombay High Court had previously ordered the NTA to withhold the results of the NEET Exam and conduct new exams because two students had encountered difficulties while taking the exam. However, the Supreme Court has now overruled the Bombay High Court and directed the NTA to release the results. According to the agency, the children have already been assessed and the result has been prepared.
NEET Controversy Due to Admit Card
When the admit card of the NEET Exam in 2019 was released, it came with controversy. The exam date was incorrectly mentioned on the admit card and the exam centers that were allotted, were canceled.
NEET Exam Controversy Due to Wrong Questions Translated
The Calcutta High Court has ruled to give a NEET 2018 candidate 20 marks after Calcutta University notified the court that the five questions were incorrectly translated into Bengali.
NEET Controversy Due to Admission in AYUSH Courses
With the introduction of NEET admission, a new NEET dispute arose. The Karnataka high court has directed the state government to complete the admission process for AYUSH courses by October 25, 2018.
Previously, those who did not pass NEET 2018 were not eligible for AYUSH courses. NEET qualified students, as well as non-NEET qualified candidates, who meet the basic requirements for admission to AYUSH courses, can now apply to a variety of institutions throughout the state.
NEET Controversy Due to an Optional Subject
The new criteria in the NEET information bulletin also stunned students who had Biology/Biotechnology as an optional subject. Students who have Biology/Biotechnology as an optional course were not allowed to take the exam, according to the guidelines.
This instilled fear in the hearts of many students and their parents. Following this, schoolchildren and their parents went to the Delhi High Court to request changes.
The court’s final verdict was in favour of the students, and they were now entitled to take the NEET 2018 Exam.
NEET Exam Controversy Due to Missing Colleges
Another NEET dispute arose with the implementation of NEET counselling. Students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other states who want to apply for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) discovered that 27 government medical colleges are missing from the list of Medical Counselling Committees (MCC).
The MCC website lists only 195 of the 222 government medical institutions that have been identified for AIQ seats. These colleges were not included in the initial round of counselling, according to the MCC, due to a technical issue. They were included in the second round of counselling, which began on July 3rd, 2019.

NEET Controversy Due to 180 Errors
May 2018 is unquestionably the month of NEET Controversies. Aside from the previous controversies, a new one has emerged. According to the dispute, Apala Debnath filed a petition saying that the Bengali edition of NEET 2018 has over 180 errors.
According to Debnath, the English version was error-free, and many Bengali applicants, including her, had difficulty answering the questions. She is now requesting an injunction prohibiting the publishing of the results until a final decision is reached.
As a result, a Calcutta High Court vacation court has ordered NEET to hold a seat for an examinee till normal bench rules on her case. According to the bench:
The results may be made public, but NEET officials must keep one position available. I want to be clear that this is not a blanket prohibition on the disclosure of results.
Controversy Due to a Suicide Case
Because of the suicide of 17-year-old Anitha, NEET 2018 was met with a barrage of political and social protests in Tamil Nadu. Anitha was a medical student from a financially and socially disadvantaged household who petitioned the Supreme Court against NEET.
The Tamil Nadu government has been criticizing NEET for several years, claiming that it prevents rural and impoverished students from government schools from becoming doctors.
Due to her family’s financial situation, Anitha, who scored 1176 out of 1200 in the 12th Class Exam, was unable to receive intensive training for NEET. According to the protesters, if it hadn’t been for NEET, Anitha might have gone on to become a doctor after her stellar achievement in the 12th grade.

Controversy of NEET Due to Wrong Answer Key
Another NEET issue arose with the publication of the NEET 2018 Answer key on May 25, 2018. Many students who took the NEET 2018 exam were dissatisfied with the answer key. According to them, there were a few incorrect questions in the NEET Exam with questionable answers.
Parents are there to support their children and to contest the answer key.
Many well-known coaching institutes had previously objected to the possibilities supplied with some Multiple-Choice Questions. Explicitly stating that more than one option is correct.
Controversy Due to Exam Language
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2017 would be held in ten languages, as listed in the application form. But that list does not include Urdu.
Following this announcement, the Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) filed a petition before the Supreme Court, requesting that Urdu be included. The final decision was in favour, and the court’s ruling declared that Urdu would be included in the NEET 2018.
Controversy Due to Dress Code
The main topic of contention for NEET 2017 was the strict NEET Dress Code. Candidates who failed the Metal Detector Test were not allowed to enter the NEET Exam Center, according to CBSE rules.
The candidates were told to dress in light-colored clothing with half-sleeved shirts and only slippers or sandals.
Because the metal detector went off, a female applicant in Kerala was compelled to remove her innerwear and another candidate in jeans was requested to change. The girl also remover her hairpins, band, and other ornaments like earrings.

Controversy Due to Wrong Language in Question Papers
There have been concerns in various states about the NEET Question Paper being messed up. Instead of Telugu, candidates in Warangal were given English and Hindi question papers.
Several complaints were filed claiming that questions in Marathi and Bengali differed (by around 85 percent) from those on the English test and that the difficulty level of the questions in these other languages was higher than that of the English language paper.
Based on the lessons learned from this protest, CBSE had chosen to conduct the NEET exam as a single language exam exclusively. This decision may overlook the problem that students confront throughout the exam as a result of translation errors.
